State Police arrest halfmoon man for grand larceny

On July 9, 2025, State Police of Clifton Park arrested Richard J. Hughes, 57 of Halfmoon, NY for two counts of Grand Larceny in the second degree, and two counts of Falsifying Business Records in the first degree.

On May 1, 2025, State Police received a complaint from a Herkimer County resident reporting they had been sold two vehicles in Halfmoon, NY.  The investigation determined Hughes reportedly sold the victim two commercial vehicles in January of 2025, for more than $200,000 each. At the time of sale, Hughes allegedly provided a title for both commercial vehicles indicating there were no liens. It was later determined that Hughes allegedly was aware of a lien on both vehicles and knowingly provided the victim with the improper titles.

Hughes surrendered himself to SP Clifton Park where he was arrested and processed.
