Seven school districts in Nassau County to close for Diwali

The following seven school districts in Nassau County will be closed on November 7, 2018 for Diwali, the festival of lights of India. They are Herricks Public Schools in New Hyde Park, Jericho School District, Syosset Central School District, East Meadow School District in Westbury, East Williston Union Free School District in Old Westbury, Half Hollows Hills Central School District in Dix Hills, Hicksville Public Schools,. The Port Washington Union Free School District will have student recess on that day. NYS is working to add the same holiday for more schools. In NYC, the Board of Ed didn't decide due to addition of new other ethnicity holidays and still in the discussion stages.
