Northeast residents lost the fight with NYC for bioswale opt out

On Monday, August 14, NYC Dept of Environmental Protection will go with its project of adding bioswales in the sidewalks around northeast Queens despite the long protests on behalf of local politician Tony Avella. The purpose of bioswale is to add a new setup to collect water from rain into the underground. The mayor's office confirmed bioswales are necessary to stop the flooding sidewalks and roads. The DEP will be mailing out letters to selected residents where the setup will be and construction will start in the Fall. Bayside, Whitestone, Little Neck, Glen Oaks, New Hyde Park and Bellerose are on the list.
