North Bangor man arrested for arson and related charges

On September 21, 2026, at approximately 2:15 p.m., New York State Police responded to State Route 11B in the town of Bangor for a reported arson complaint.

 

An investigation determined that Marshall M. Cyrus, age 20, of North Bangor, had been sending threatening messages to the victim stating he would burn down the residence. The victim contacted law enforcement, and troopers responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, troopers located Cyrus, who was attempting to leave in a vehicle. Troopers removed Cyrus from the vehicle and detained him.

Troopers observed smoke and a burnt plastic odor inside the residence but were initially unable to determine the source. The fire department responded to assist with the investigation.

Further investigation determined that Cyrus was in possession of a Bernzomatic propane torch and had ignited a Christmas tree located in the living room.

Cyrus was transported to SP Malone for processing and charged with:

Arson in the Third Degree

Criminal Mischief

Aggravated Harassment in the Second Degree
