NYC affordable housing has new report released

Today, the NY Housing Conference released the report for 2024 on the city's eviction data. For the year 2024, there were 120,000 applications on eviction processed. 43,000 were for the affordable housing sector where 38,000 were for non-payment of rent. The end result showed less than 5% evicted while the same tenants remain in place. The Bronx leads the eviction process with 45% for not paying the rent followed by Brooklyn, Manhattan and Queens. As of 2020, the same data found 11% of the buildings under the affordable housing program have been collecting less than 80% of the total rent.

This is a small impact overall for the property owners without paying property taxes as part of the agreement with the city under affordable housing. Allocation of few units for low income tenants continue to face evictions in court for non-payment in 2025 and the number is higher than 2024. One of the primary reasons is rent, food, utilities and other expenses are increasing in NYC despite being the most affordable city, says the government officials from the Mayor, Governor to local elected officials of City Council, Senate and Assembly.

Despite the evictions, the city continue with affordable housing and the hottest market in Queens is Downtown Jamaica and Flushing.

Gone are the parking lots and this one, 92-30 165th Street is listed on the market for $49 million and it's 1.73 acres. It is listed with Ripco Real Estate.
