Long Island woman 51 killed after cab driver crashes car careens down sidewalk and pins her against wall

A woman from Long Island, who was strolling along a Queens sidewalk on Saturday, was fatally struck by a yellow taxi that mounted the curb following a collision, according to police reports.

The 23-year-old cab driver was operating a Toyota Rav4 at the intersection of 115th Avenue and Lefferts Boulevard in South Ozone Park at approximately 3:10 a.m. when he crashed into a Honda Accord driven by a 25-year-old man, police stated.

The impact caused the taxi to veer onto the sidewalk, where it struck the 51-year-old woman and two men, aged 44 and 49.

According to a police source, the woman was "trapped" against a fence by the vehicle.

She has been identified as Vidya Dookran-Franco from Merrick, police confirmed.

The two men sustained minor injuries. No arrests have been made.
