Full vote for a casino on Long Island in August

Today, the Legislature Rules Committee of Nassau County voted in favor of the casino coming to the Coliseum in Uniondale. Despite opposition, Las Vegas Sands will have the lease for two years to operate fully with entertainment venues like UBS Arena.

August 5, 2024 will be the voting day from the full legislature before it goes to the County Executive.

The original lease between Nassau County and Sands was to spend $6 billion redeveloping the Coliseum area which was void by the state court demanding to revise the plan. This is due to the county violating both the state's Open Meetings Law and the State Environmental Quality Review Act when they approved the transfer without holding a proper public hearing.
