Long time diner closing in Astoria

For over 40 years, Neptune Diner was a fixture in Astoria. This Sunday, it’s closing doors for good.

The location will be demolished to make way for affordable housing after the City Council approved a disputed rezoning plan in 2021. Three buildings will be built on the location including Staples and another adjacent lot. The original plan was to build 11 and 12 story buildings with 278 units with 20 for affordable housing. A new plan will be released to the community board in the next meeting.

Patrons can visit the location for memory as many diners are closing in the city.
