From Bangladesh to the Bronx died a hero

All he did was serve and protect in NYC. One part of the Bronx is now packed with the Bangladesh community from all over the boroughs and as far as upstate to Long Island.

The late police officer Didarul Islam who died yesterday during the midtown shooting is all set for dignified transfer to his community.

Islam is a Bangladeshi immigrant and father of two boys with a third child on the way joined the force in December 2021 and was stationed in the 47th Precinct in the Bronx. He was off duty and was working as a private security guard during the incident. He had three missions as the sole breadwinner. One to take care of his own large family, send support to his more large family members back in Bangladesh and serve as a cop to protect the city. For him, family was everything.

He wasn’t on duty. He didn’t have backup. But when danger struck, he ran toward it, instinctively choosing to protect others, even at the cost of his own life.

Today, Islam's body will depart from the Manhattan Medical Examiner's Office at 4:30pm heading to the Parkchester Jame Masjid Funeral Home on Virginia Avenue where his family will be present along with police officers.

The NYC Mayor will be attending the funeral when details are available for the public.

RIP Didarul Islam
