Fraud investigations in Malone leads to an arrest

On July 19, 2026, the New York State Police arrested Skyler J. Lamere, age 21, of Constable, and charged him with Grand Larceny in the Third Degree and Scheme to Defraud in the First Degree.

On July 3, 2026, at approximately 6:13 p.m., troopers responded to Spencer Road in the town of Malone for a report of fraud.

An investigation determined that Lamere, a former employee of the victim, fraudulently obtained $3,146.50 from the victim’s bank account. The victim had paid Lamere by check, and those checks were initially deposited into Lamere’s account. Investigators determined that Lamere later redeposited the same checks electronically, resulting in duplicate withdrawals from the victim’s bank account.

During the investigation, the New York State Police worked with the bank’s fraud department to document the fraudulent transactions and assist in resolving the matter.
