Nicholville male charged with criminal mischief

On July 18, 2026, New York State Police charged Richard H. Peters, age 46, of Nicholville, with two counts of Criminal Mischief in the Third Degree and Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree.

On July 18, 2026, at approximately 10:28 a.m., troopers responded to Elliott Road in the town of Hopkinton for a report of criminal mischief. An investigation determined that Peters intentionally slashed the tires on two vehicles, a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe and a 2016 Ram ProMaster.

Members of the St. Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office later located Peters in the village of Potsdam. Peters also had an active bench warrant at the time of his arrest.

Peters was transported to SP Massena for processing. While being processed, he refused to comply with lawful commands and interfered with the investigation, resulting in the additional charge of Obstructing Governmental Administration in the Second Degree.
