Emergency rescue operation at the Hudson River

The NYPD reported a helicopter crash which occurred this afternoon in the Hudson River. The incident was reported today around 3:15pm near Pier 40 in the vicinity of West Street and West Houston Street.

ESU is working at the scene.

One person recovered from the water declared dead by the medical examiner.

Police say 6 people are dead including 3 children who are tourists from Spain.

Additional details are not provided yet pending a statement from the police.

The investigation continues.
