Elmhurst fire was a major crisis for all involved

The FDNY reported a house fire in Elmhurst which started this evening in the first floor around 6:45pm on Dongan Avenue at the unit, 83/32. Soon the fire extended to other homes. EMS reported a 34 year old woman died and nine others were injured including children. A 22 year old male is in critical condition.

The fire marshal declared this was a four alarm and firefighters worked in the freezing conditions. Several people were removed from the basement after extensive search.

By midnight, the fire was brought under control.

As per latest, two members of FDNY were injured.

More than 200 firefighters are still working on the scene.

The cause of fire is under investigation.
