Electric grid to modernize JFK to Jamaica homes

ConEd announced a new project and that's a $1.2 billion investment to modernize the electric grid in the Southeast Queens sector. The investments will create two new substations and Springfield electric network while maintaining clean energy to the area from businesses to homes along with the JFK airport.

Construction has started and will continue until Summer 2028.

This is the statement,

This will allow the Jamaica network to handle increased demand and pave the way for customers to use cleaner energy to charge electric vehicles and electrify heating and other equipment.

A foundation for continued electrification and redevelopment at downtown Jamaica, John F. Kennedy International Airport, and the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s bus fleet, leading to cleaner air for local residents.
