Body of a surfer recovered at the Rockaways Beach in Queens

The NYPD reported the body of a surfer was recovered last Saturday afternoon from the Rockaways in Queens. This is by Jacob Riis Park where a father and son voluntarily recovered the body after seeing a surfer board floating in the water.

Then they notified 911 and the EMS worked on the scene with emergency resuscitation. Then EMS transported the male to a local hospital where he later died.

The medical examiner will release the cause of death after the autopsy is complete.

At the moment, the name and other details are withheld pending family notification.

This is the first death for this year at the Rockaways Beach where there are no lifeguards until the official opening on Memorial Day this year.

Last year there were four deaths at the beach.

The investigation continues.
