Assault and attempted robbery leads to chase in Bellerose

Police reported around 2:30am, assault and attempted robbery on Union Turnpike and 249 Street last night. Two suspects took off in a gray Honda Accord sedan toward Cross Island Parkway north. Shortly, police lost track of the vehicle on the parkway. This was involving catalytic converter thefts when the vehicle owners confronted them. Several residents alerted police of the incidents. Two victims were assaulted after resisting robberies. Ongoing investigation.
