177 years of memory from Milwaukee hard to pass

Schlitz beer has stopped its production today.

According to the current company that owns the brand,

The Pabst Brewing Company has confirmed it is ceasing production of the iconic lager that started in 1849 once the largest beer in the world. That means other long time beer brands in what could be called the Pabst portfolio, like bottles of Blatz and Old Milwaukee, will also be harder to find.

“Unfortunately, we have seen continued increases in our costs to store and ship certain products and have had to make the tough choice to place Schlitz Premium on hiatus,” Zac Nadile, Pabst head of brand strategy, said in a statement.

The original company was founded in 1849 and by the 1950's, Schlitz was the largest beer nationwide. Then lost market share to Budweiser in the 70s.

Today, Anheuser-Busch InBev is the largest beer company out of Germany in the world that produces Budweiser, Corona, and Stella Artois as the main brand.
