Woman charged with hate crime outside McDonald s in New Hyde Park

New Hyde Park - Police were called to Jericho Turnpike before New Hyde Park Road on Thursday, June 1st around 4pm reporting assault. Further investigation reported of racial slurs and assault by woman who took off. The victim, a 28 year old black woman was taking a group of disabled to McDonald's in New Hyde Park when a woman yelled racial slurs. The victim decided to leave and that's when she was assaulted while waiting for the red light. NCPD alerted vehicle plate number and NYPD tracked the woman's vehicle on Astoria Blvd in East Elmhurst. The woman identified as Jennifer Velez, 45 was taken into custody and charged with assault and harassment. Reported 9am.
