Winthrop male arrested stemming from a larceny complaint

On November 11, 2025, New York State Police members arrested Louis J. Smith, age 42, of Winthrop, NY, for Criminal Possession of Stolen Property 4th degree.

On May 31, 2025, at approximately 4:15 p.m., Troopers responded to Elm Street in the village of Potsdam for a report of a larceny. An investigation determined the victim was working at a construction site on Catherine Street in the town of Parishville when a disagreement occurred among coworkers. The victim left the site and, upon returning to retrieve their tools, discovered they were missing.

Further investigation revealed that Smith, who was also working at the construction site, was in possession of the victim’s tools.
