Whitestone selected for Flames of Honor

The NYC Mayor announced of all locations, Whitestone has been selected to add a monument called Flames of Honor on the waterfront area.

This is to honor all members of the military both active and inactive since September 11, 2001 especially those who served in the wars from Iraq to Afghanistan. Over 7,000 troops have not come home from those wars. NYC lost 99 heros and most were from Queens.

As for the location, the expected area is in the vicinity of a bike path by the waterfront, seeing the Whitestone Bridge funded by both private and public partnership.

A date of construction has not been announced as of yet.
