Valentines message to drivers in NY

Starting February 2026, the NYS Dept of Motor Vehicles will have a new enforcement for all drivers statewide and citywide.

First know this, any illegal U turn will result in 2 points on the driver license. For this, the Dept of Transportation will post the signs at certain locations mainly in the busy areas. The three main routes in Queens will be Northern Blvd, Hillside Avenue and Jamaica Avenue where traffic is easy to enforce for cops to meet their quotes.

Next one is broken headlights or taillights and will get 1 point on the driver license.

The city is working on enforcement for those driving at night time without headlights since this is a frequent crisis.

The rest enforcement is the same except points drop from 11 to 18 months will be 10 points in 24 months.

Using a phone while driving will be 6 points, reckless driving at 8 points from the current 5 and speeding over 10 mph to 4 points.

This will enforce traffic as well as bring more revenues to the city and state.
