Update on NYC public schools

A deal was reached for NYC public schools between the city and union. Remote learning starts on September 16 and n-person on September 21. The in-person is blended with remote. UFT chief just stated today, "It?s not going to be easy but I?m very proud to say we did this at this moment," This will give time for school officials including teachers to prepare more safety preparation between September 10 and 15.
There will be mobile testing vans outside the schools as part of the agreement wth UFT and a monthly medical monitoring process. All students under the age 18 need parental consent for COVD test. The mayor quoted, "I don't think its going to happen" after a reporter asked if a parent refuse. The test will be self swab and not administered by health official with instructions. Also, there will be random testing between 10 and 20% based on the size of the class and building starting October 1st.
This is from UFT, "Under the new agreement, any student who refuses to be tested will be required to attend school remotely, and any staff member who fails to comply with mandated testing will be placed on unpaid leave."
