Update State Police investigate a Kidnapping incident

On March 25, 2025, members of the New York State Police transported Sanders to the Schroon Lake Town Court for arraignment. Sanders was remanded to Essex County Jail on a bail requirement of $250,000 in cash or a bond of $1 million. A preliminary hearing for the felony charge is scheduled for March 31, 2025, at Essex County Court.

On March 25, 2025, New York State Police arrested Izik J. Sanders, a 19-year-old of Chestertown, NY, on multiple charges, including Kidnapping in the 2nd degree, Assault in the 2nd and 3rd degrees, two counts of Menacing in the 2nd degree, two counts of Criminal Obstruction of Breath or Blood Circulation, and two counts of Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 4th degree.

On March 25, 2025, at approximately 5:22 p.m., New York State Police responded to a report of a physical domestic incident on County Route 29 in the town of Minerva. An investigation revealed that Sanders and the victim had been involved in a physical altercation on March 23, 2025, during which Sanders struck the victim in the back of the head with his knee. Later that same day, Sanders sent threatening text message to the victim directed at a family member.

On March 25, 2025, the victim remained at the residence throughout the day due to a minor head injury and was fearful for the safety of their family members because of the threats made by Sanders. Further investigation determined that Sanders held the victim against their will in a bedroom, struck the victim multiple times with a bat, made threats while holding scissors to the victim’s neck, and applied pressure to the victim’s neck using a dog leash. The victim eventually managed to escape from the bedroom and get away from Sanders. Sanders then fled the scene.

Johnsburg Rescue responded to the scene and transported the victim to Glens Falls Hospital for non-life-threatening medical evaluation.

Sanders was later located, arrested, and taken to SP Schroon Lake for processing. He is currently being held in Essex County Jail, awaiting a pre-arraignment hearing at the Town of Schroon Court.

This remains an ongoing investigation.
