UPDATE State police investigating shooting involving two juveniles in Palermo

The investigation has determined that the 17-year-old victim went to the suspect’s residence, where an altercation occurred. During the incident, the 17-year-old suspect shot the victim in the buttock with a .22 caliber Ruger rifle. The victim fled the scene following the shooting.

 

The suspect has been cooperative during the investigation, and a TERPO (Temporary Extreme Risk Protection Order) has been filed. The weapon has been secured by police.

At this time, no charges have been filed against the suspect. Due to the suspect’s age, potential charges are being reviewed in consultation with the Oswego County District Attorney’s Office.

The investigation remains ongoing.

On August 13, 2025, at approximately 1:30 p.m., State Police responded to a report of a disturbance at a residence on State Route 49 in the town of Palermo.

A preliminary investigation revealed that an altercation occurred outside the residence, during which a 17-year-old male discharged a firearm. A 17-year-old male victim was later located and transported to Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse for treatment of a non-life-threatening injury.

The investigation remains ongoing.
