Thruway traffic stop in Verona leads to arrest for gun and drug possession

On June 15, 2026, New York State Police assigned to SP Schuyler arrested Brandon M. Ross, 32, of Gloversville, N.Y., for criminal possession of a weapon 4th degree and criminal possession of a controlled substance 7th degree.

Shortly before 5:30 p.m. on June 15, troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 2014 Chevrolet pickup truck traveling eastbound along the New York State Thruway (I-90) in the town of Verona for vehicle and traffic law violations. During the interview with the driver, identified as Ross, troopers observed a Ruger semi-automatic handgun in the door compartment and detained Ross, who did not possess a NYS pistol permit for the weapon. During a vehicle search, troopers located approximately two grams of mushrooms (psilocybin).
