On June 16, 2026, the New York State Police announced the arrest of Jashiya B. Smith, 30, of Brooklyn, New York, for Criminal Possession of a Controlled Substance in the 2nd Degree, Hallucinogen, a Class A-II felony.

The investigation began on June 15, 2026, at approximately 8:02 p.m., when New York State Park Police responded to a report of lost hikers in Harriman State Park near Stahahe Lake.

At approximately 11:00 p.m., Smith, who was part of the group of lost hikers, became separated from the others after allegedly consuming psilocybin mushrooms. During the investigation, Smith was found to be in possession of approximately 45 grams of psilocybin mushrooms. He was subsequently arrested and charged. Smith was transported to State Police Monroe for processing without incident.

Smith was arraigned on June 16, 2026, in the Town of Tuxedo Court and released on his recognizance. He is due back in the Tuxedo Town Court on July 8, 2026, at 1:30 p.m.
