If you are a victim of domestic abuse, do not be afraid. This is America. Most women are afraid to call 911 for police and often taken to hospital by either family or friends without reporting. An Afghani victim, Mezhghan Aini, 30 was allegedly beaten by her husband Mohammad Yama Aini, 46 at their home on Union Street and Parsons Blvd in Flushing on Saturday, July 22 around 12:30am. The husband took the wife to hospital and doctors called police. In this case, the husband was not charged because of his diplomatic immunity. The woman refused to cooperate further and now remains silent. Domestic violence victims have voice and there are organization willing to help. One major organization is SAKHI and their hotline is open around the clock at (212) 868-6741. Their link is at www.sakhi.org. Do not be afraid to speak up regardless of consequences.
