Police are warning of four perps scamming people in Queens

More than 10 Queens residents were scammed after they gave deposits to suspects posing as apartment owners. They collected deposits and then gave fake keys to apartments that were already occupied but letting them know it will be empty within one week after meeting in person. Victims responded to ads from Craigslist. Police reported the scam started on April 1 when a 40 year old female victim lost $1,400 deposit in Jackson Heights. Another male victim lost $1,800 on April 21 to an apartment already occupied with fake keys. The investigation is ongoing.
