The last duck farm closed on Long Island

The Suffolk County Health Department posted a stop work order to the last duck farm on Long Island after a report of an outbreak of avian influenza. This is at Aquebogue in the Town of Riverhead in Suffolk County. The health dept issued a statement the county is working with state agencies to ensure public health and safety and there is minimal risk to public health.

All the ducks around 99,000 are under process of euthanization.

The owner of the farm will have to start from scratch after all the process is being done by both state and federal level agencies if decided to continue the business but not confirmed.

The farm was started in 1908, a long time community fixture.
