Supermarket evacuated in Nassu County

Police have closed the local supermarket in Merrick after negative odor spread inside causing people to faint. This is at Lidl, 1686 Merrick Road. Hazmat is working on the scene. Three people taken to hospitals. Ongoing investigation.

Update from Merrick FD - FD responded to LiDL Supermarket after multiple people began to feel ill. Prior to arrival the store was evacuated by workers. It was reported that “something was in the air” causing irritation. The air was checked with several meters with negative results for anything toxic. The Nassau County Fire Marshall Haz-Mat team was called and found negative readings as well. However, one person was transported to an area hospital for observation.
