State Police arrest White Creek man following shooting investigation

On January 13, 2026, State Police of Greenwich arrested Mathieu M. Forette, 25, of White Creek, NY, for Assault 2nd and Criminal Mischief 3rd.

On January 13, 2026, at about 10:01 a.m. Troopers were notified that an individual had been transported to the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center with the report of gunshot wounds. The investigation determined the victim, who had an ongoing conflict with Forette, reportedly traveled to the area of Forette’s home in White Creek and exited his vehicle. While the victim was outside their vehicle, Forette allegedly discharged a pellet rifle multiple times from a second-story window of his home, striking the victim in the chest and back. The victim fled to their vehicle and transported themselves to the hospital, where they were treated for non-life-threatening injuries. The victim’s vehicle was also struck by a pellet and damaged during the incident.
