State Police are investigating a fatal motor vehicle in the town of Bethel

On May 8, 2025, at approximately 5:45 a.m., The New York State Police Bureau of Criminal Investigation (BCI) at State Police Liberty responded to a car vs. pedestrian motor vehicle collision on State Route 17B, in the area of Happy Avenue, in the town of Bethel, Sullivan County.

Preliminary Investigation revealed that a 2022 International Harvester tractor trailer, operated by Anthony Lee Tyson, age 64, of Waterbury, Connecticut was traveling westbound on State Route 17B when it struck a pedestrian, identified as Brett Stevens, age 30, of Bethel, NY, who was walking within the lane.  Stevens succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased at the scene.

This investigation remains ongoing.
