Started with four resulting one dead one in critical condition and two ran away from subway surfing

An 18th birthday celebration went horribly wrong for four teens who decided to try subway surfing. The incident was reported on Friday night around 6pm on the train heading to Brooklyn Manhattan on the Williamsburg Bridge when police say a 14 year old fell and later died. The other one, an 18 year old, is in critical condition. The other two ran away and police are still searching for them. J and M trains were affected. The social media companies already removed subway surfing videos working with the MTA after then Mayor Adams filed lawsuits.

Meanwhile, the MTA is now whining for more budget to add barriers on each train car to prevent surfing since it's been installed to few and then stalled after the pilot program was not a good one

The social media trend started in 2022. From 2023 through 2025 alone, at least 16 people died subway surfing in NYC.

In 2025, the city saw five deaths due to subway surfing. There were six deaths in 2024, and five in 2023. For 2026, Friday was the first fatality.
