Roosevelt man arrested for criminal impersonation of officer

First Squad Detectives report the arrest of a Roosevelt man for an incident that occurred on Sunday, September 22, 2024 at 9:00 pm in Roosevelt.

According to detectives, Leonardo Argueta, 57, of 53 W Centennial Avenue, approached a female victim, 31, at Ruby Deli, located at 151 Nassau Road who was having a dispute with his girlfriend.  Defendant Argueta verbally identified himself as an undercover police detective and put the victim in handcuffs. Victim and bystanders threatened to call the police. Defendant Argueta removed the handcuffs and fled the scene. 

A thorough investigation was conducted and Defendant Leonardo Argueta was located and taken into custody on September 23, 2024 without incident.

Defendant Argueta is charged with Criminal Impersonation 2nd Degree and Unlawful Imprisonment 2nd Degree. He was released on an appearance ticket returnable on Friday, October 11, 2024 at First District Court, 99 Main Street, Hempstead.
