Rochester man arrested on felony weapons charges following traffic stop

The New York State Police announce the arrest of a Rochester-area man following a traffic stop that resulted in the recovery of a loaded handgun.

On January 2, 2026, a New York State Trooper conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle traveling eastbound on I-490 in the city of Rochester for vehicle and traffic law violations. During the course of the investigation and a subsequent inventory of the vehicle, a loaded handgun was located inside the vehicle.

During the encounter, one occupant attempted to flee and resisted arrest before being taken into custody. The remaining occupants were cooperative.

As a result of the investigation, Jeremy Leach, age 36, with no permanent address, was arrested and charged with:

Criminal Possession of a Weapon 2nd degree (C felony)

Criminal Possession of a Weapon 3rd degree (D felony)

Resisting Arrest (A misdemeanor)
