Retired NYPD remembered after fatal crash in Wantagh

The NCPD reported a fatal vehicular accident involving a pedestrian that occurred yesterday around 5:30pm in Wantagh.

From a preliminary report according to detectives, a 57 year old male was operating a 2025 GMC pickup truck westbound on Lufberry Avenue and while turning southbound onto Briard Street, struck a 53 year old female pedestrian. The pedestrian was transported to an area hospital where she was pronounced by the hospital staff. The victim has been identified as Elena Crowley of Wantagh. The driver of the vehicle remained at scene.

The investigation is ongoing.

Crowley retired from the NYPD in 2021 and was working as a security aide at Roslyn High School.

She will be remembered by all.

This week, her funeral is being set with road closure in the area.
