Raised in Richmond Hill now leads the precinct

Meet Pratima Bhullar Maldonado, the newly assigned captain of the 102nd Precinct in Queens as of last month. She was born in Punjab, India and the first south Asian woman in the highest rank of NYPD. She grew up in Richmond Hill since she was 9 after immigrating and now in charge of the police precinct also in Richmond Hill.

According to NYPD, of the department's 33,787 current members, 10.5 percent are Asian.
