Queens man convicted of murder for killing twenty nine year old woman in his Flushing apartment

Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz announced that Quiming Wan has been convicted by a jury of murder, sexual abuse and related charges for the November 2021 death of 29-year-old Jiaomei Zhou, whose body he carried from his apartment to the building lobby before being interrupted by other residents.

District Attorney Katz said: “This defendant brutally murdered a young woman in his apartment and callously carried her lifeless body to his building’s lobby before he was stopped. He also sought to hide evidence of the crime. We presented a strong case against the defendant and a jury found him guilty. We hope the verdict provides a measure of solace to the victim’s loved ones.”

Wan, 55, of Main Street in Flushing, was convicted by a jury yesterday of murder in the second degree, aggravated sexual abuse in the first degree, sexual abuse in the first degree, tampering with physical evidence and criminal possession of a weapon in the fourth degree. Queens Supreme Court Justice Michael Aloise set sentencing for November 21. Wan faces 25 years to life in prison.

Trial openings began on September 26, 2024, and closings occurred on October 8, 2024. The jury deliberated for less than two hours.

According to the charges and trial testimony, at approximately 11:30 p.m. on November 1, 2021, officers responded to the defendant’s Main Street apartment building and upon entering the lobby area, saw 29-year-old Jiaomei Zhou unconscious and unresponsive with blood on her pants. She was pronounced dead shortly thereafter.

A search revealed blood on the door frame of Wan’s apartment, the floor of defendant’s bedroom and on the mattress, desk chair and bedroom wall. Two bloody rags were found inside the bathroom and multiple blood-covered items including towels and a woman’s tank top were in a laundry bag hidden in Wan’s closet.

Wan had blood on his feet and his underwear.

An autopsy found that Zhou died from penetrating blunt force trauma of the perineum and pelvis. The fatal injury was caused by a blunt object being repeatedly inserted into her pelvis causing extensive internal damage.
