Potsdam man charged in two fraud investigations

On June 16, 2026, New York State Police charged Ryan P. Clement, age 40, of Potsdam, with two counts of Grand Larceny in the 4th Degree and two counts of Issuing a Bad Check.

On June 11, 2026, at approximately 6:18 p.m., troopers responded to the Wood Chop Shop on Cowan Road in the town of Canton for a fraud complaint. An investigation determined that Clement purchased merchandise valued at $1,182.58 using a check while knowing there were insufficient funds in the account associated with the check.

During the course of the investigation, troopers identified a second incident. On June 16, 2026, troopers responded to a business on County Route 27 in the town of Canton for a fraud complaint. The investigation revealed that Clement purchased merchandise valued at $1,802.02 using a fraudulent check.

As a result of the investigations, an arrest warrant was issued for Clement. Members of the Potsdam Police Department subsequently took Clement into custody on an unrelated matter and notified State Police of his whereabouts. Troopers responded and took custody of Clement, transporting him to SP Canton for processing.
