Now comes the next agency to please the Mayor

Move over sanitation and building departments, here comes the fire dept with a mission to control people for dough.

This morning, a building owner whose apartment is rent stabilized was raided by the fire department after a call came in for e-bike battery storage. The fire marshal issued a summon with a fine to the building owner. The e-bike battery storage was in the tenant's unit and must be removed.

There is no law for e-bike batteries allowed to store in the tenant's unit or not unless it's in the provision of the lease or even e-bikes.

Also there is no law that the tenant can store in the apartment unless a warrant is issued thus the apartment owner is confused on this matter. The fire dept is now making more inspections to homes without warrants or permissions for e-bike batteries resulting in civilians harassing them.

Over the last 3 years, there were around 500 fires from e-bike batteries resulting in 19 deaths.

So far no member of the City Council has introduced any bills on this to keep the safety of the building, the owner and tenants.

Some owners have reached out to lawyers who are all flabbergasted with the new summons.

As of now the bill to register all bikes including e-bikes is stalled after certain members of the City Council refuse to support.
