New laws effective for the new year in NY and NYC

Starting January 1, 2019, new laws takes effect in NY and NYC. Any stores in both NYC having pharmacy attached will not be allowed to sell tobacco products. This includes supermarkets.

Second is people living in NYC who doesn't identify themselves as either man or woman can receive new birth certificated with X as the gender neutral marker. The binary option of X can be added to driver license issued in NY, passports and social security cards.

No medical needed for change. Third is diaper changing tables in both men and women bathrooms of new buildings in each floor for both NY and NYC. Fourth is paid family leave with 10 weeks of paid time for newborn, adopted or fostered child to care for both NY and NYC.

Also for other family members with health conditions and issues related to military deployment.

In 2021, the 10 weeks will increase to 12 weeks. And lastly for NYC only, Styrofoam will go into effect but the mayor's office confirmed enforcement won't act until July 1st due to inventory being piled up at local businesses. Businesses will receive warning cards from NYC Dept of Health to make the required adjustment. After July 1st, the first fine is $250, $500 for second and $1,000 each time afterwards.
