New law for 1 and 2 family rentals in NYC

Mayr di Blasio stated on Monday of a new law requiring 1 and 2 family rental homes with children aged 6 or below to get yearly inspections for lead paint hazards.

This is the mayor's plan to end childhood lead exposure. The law is in effect since 2004 but rarely enforced for 1 and 2 family since most are not registered with NYC Housing Preservation Dept.

Also NYC Housing reported over 800 kids aged 5 and younger were exposed to leads between 2012 and 2016.

The mayor has not disclosed plan for that problem but stated $7 million dollars investment will be allotted toward shelters.
