New York state police crack down on unsafe driving over long weekend

New York State Police announced special traffic enforcement efforts for the long weekend of Columbus and Indigenous Peoples’ Day to crack down on speeding and impaired driving.

The enforcement period began Thursday and continues through Monday. This is the period when authorities said traffic volumes increase significantly in the Empire State due to fall tourism over the long weekend.

“During this campaign, State Police and our law enforcement partners will be highly visible and looking for motorists driving in an unsafe manner,” State Police Superintendent Steven G. James said. “By making safe choices, the injuries and deaths caused by speeding and drunk driving are completely preventable. As always, we will have zero tolerance for those who endanger others by driving recklessly.”
