New York State Police investigate attempted murder in Tupper Lake

On February 11, 2026, at approximately 7:50 p.m., the New York State Police responded to 2 Lindsay Avenue in the village of Tupper Lake for a report of a male who had been intentionally struck by a motor vehicle. It was reported that the vehicle fled the scene following the incident.

Emergency Medical Services responded and transported the victim, identified as Eric Sndyer, 37, of Tupper Lake, to Adirondack Medical Center. Smith was later transferred to University of Vermont Medical Center in Burlington for further treatment, where he was treated and released.

Further investigation determined the vehicle used during the incident was a 2021 Dodge pickup truck. The operator of the vehicle was identified as Matthew Patnode, age 47, of Tupper Lake. The vehicle Patnode was operating was later located abandoned in a parking lot in Tupper Lake.

Patnode was arrested and charged with Attempted Murder in the 2nd Degree, Assault in the 1st Degree, and Criminal Possession of a Weapon in the 3rd Degree.

He was arraigned in the Town of Malone Court before the Honorable June Fisher and remanded to the Franklin County Jail in lieu of $100,000 cash bail.

The Tupper Lake Police Department assisted the New York State Police with this investigation.
