NYC subway is now a tug of war between the federal and city vs state and MTA

First, the US Dept of Transportation Commissioner says NYC subways are not safe and MTA must be audited.

Second, the NYS Governor says subways are safe after additional NYPD and deployment of security from other agencies where crime went down by 18% according to the MTA.

Now get this.

An NYPD transit commander was demoted for allegedly falsifying crime statistics, raising serious concerns about the accuracy of these numbers as per NYC Mayor.

The NYPD confirmed violent crimes from felony assault including sexual assaults toward women are almost 100% inside the subways.

The crime is higher in 2025 compared to the last 5 years by 30%.

Meanwhile, to construct 1.8 miles from 96th to 125th Street in Manhattan for subway extension will cost $7.7 billion. That's $4.3 billion per mile. This is where the MTA announced to hire consultants, it will cost $250 million dollars.

The Congestion Pricing continue to collect payments and the MTA is pleased along with the Governor. April 21 is the deadline to halt the Congesting Pricing set by the Trump Administration.
