NYC Mayor revised styrofoam ban starting January 2019

NYC Dept of Health reported along with Mayor's office of styrofoam ban will take effect starting January 1, 2019. The main reason is due to small businesses not having the financial requirements in place for the migration change. Starting September 2018, non-profits and small businesses making less than $500,000 per year can apply under hardship exemptions with Dept of Small Business Services to qualify if they can prove that the purchase of alternative products other than styrofoam will not be financially viable or causing to close their businesses. All other businesses making over $500,000 will have to ban styrofoam after judge's decision from the three year trial in court. Mayor di Blasio stated its long overdue due to styrofoam flooding the streets, landfills and waterways. At the same time, no private companies can sell any items related to styrofoam in NYC. The Dept of Consumer Affairs will mail out of styrofoam ban starting next week with posters to all businesses in NYC.
