NYC Mayor held a press statement on deadly subway surfing incidents

Today, the NYC Mayor held a press statement on increasing subway surfing incidents. The Mayor’s lawsuit against social media companies is still ongoing despite filing them last year in California where tech companies are based. The NYPD is now deploying drones to check on major lines on outdoor trains. At the same time, call 911 if anyone witnesses the incidents. This is the Mayor’s statement,

To help save lives, NYPD is utilizing 911 call data to deploy joint drone and field response teams of officers to areas experiencing the highest complaints of subway surfing. Using the most accurate information calls by concerned citizens these teams deploy drones to canvas moving trains for subway surfers. Once a subway surfer is found, a field team will hold the train at the next station and remove them. To date, this program has helped save the lives of 114 individuals — ranging from nine years old to 33 years old, and the average age being 14 years old.
