Mental crisis services is now on a hiring stage in NYC

The NYC Mayor announced the new plans soon to be available to the public to replace the NYPD to handle EDP, Emotionally Disturbed Persons in NYC with social workers.

This is under the operation of the Department of Community Safety where calls from either 911 or 311 will be handled by the same division to the scene. The Mayor says EDP are delicate who must be treated with love, compassion and dignity without violence. This means if the EDP is violent, then the matter will be escalated to NYPD. The law enforcement matter is to be decided after a social worker deemed so.

The hiring criteria is not an easy one. One must undergo rigorous training with a calm mind that requires patience. The pay grade has not been announced but hey a job is a job.

This is going to be so exciting for NYC with less NYPD to the scene involving EDP to diffuse any given situation. Moreover, this will reduce the need for protests against NYPD and people will be happy a social worker can do the job of a cop.

The pilot program for locations will be announced soon.
