Mayor di Blasio wants vacancy tax in NYC

On Monday, Mayor di Blasio reported the city is working on a plan to charge landlords with vacancy fee or tax. The purpose is to charge landlords who leaves their storefronts vacant for a long time in any neighborhoods in NYC implying the wait for higher rentals. Although details are pending, the mayor has not given a time table. From NYC Council, a report published in December stated vacancy at storefronts doubled from 2.1 to 4.2 between 2012 and 2017. Another law the City Council is proposing is to have vacancy storefronts to register for record purpose.
