Many Glen Oaks residents are waiting for tomorrow so they can cook

As of February, about 80 families living in Glen Oaks Village Co-op around 75th Avenue and 255th Street are without gas. The residents have not been able to cook for two months and most were forced to eat outside without reimbursements. In February, ConEd reported gas leak from pipes maintained by the coop and had shut off toward apartments. The management of Glen Oaks hired plumber and contacted the building department before ConEd to turn on the gas. The city's building dept inspectors did not approve after unable to access inside the apartments on March 12. A new date has been set and that's April 4. ConEd advised the Glen Oaks management to apply for Emergency Work Notification that will restore gas before building dept's involvement but they never did. If the building dept inspector is not allowed access to apartment on April 4, then another date will be scheduled in May. If access is provided and approved, then ConEd will work to restore gas with the plumbing company Glen Oaks Village hired. Residents are surprised to learn the management and board are not able to handle the task on time but plays the blame game.
